Brooklyn and the Outer Boroughs
Our Outer Boroughs tour which may include Brooklyn, The Bronx and Queens is designed for those who wish to see some of New York City’s outer borough neighborhoods. This tour is usually 4 – 6 hours depending on how many boroughs you wish to visit, how many stops you wish to make and how much of each borough you wish to see. New York City consists of five boroughs. Manhattan was the original New York City, but in 1898 it incorporated the City of Brooklyn along with The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Today’s New York City!
Sites & Neighborhoods
Brooklyn is located south east of Manhattan just across the East River. Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge here you could see: Brooklyn Heights – Fulton Ferry Landing, the swank Dumbo, the trendy and popular Williamsburg, Coney Island, Brighton Beach (“Little Odessa” Russian and Ukrainian neighborhoods), the National Historic Landmark Green-Wood Cemetery. The site where the Brooklyn Dodgers Ebbets Field was located, Prospect Park, the casual seaside vibe with indie distilleries and a winery in Red Hook, the artsy neighborhood of Greenpoint. We invite you to select which one of these sites you are most interested in seeing and we’ll customize your tour to meet your desires.
The Bronx is located northeast of Manhattan, across the Harlem River. It’s named after Jonas Bronck from the 1630’s. It is the only borough of New York City that is on the mainland. Here you may see: Yankee Stadium, Arthur Avenue (Little Italy), New York Botanical Garden, Edgar Allen Poe’s House, the Grand Concourse, Wave Hill (the former home of Teddy Roosevelt, and Mark Twain sitting on 28 acres of gardens), City Island (New England Fishing Village in New York City), Van Cortland Park and the Bronx Zoo.
Queens is located just east of Manhattan across the East River on Long Island. It received its name from the British who named it after the King’s Queen in the 1700’s. Here you can see: Long Island City a posh hipster neighborhood, Astoria (Greek neighborhood), Citi Field (home of the NY Mets), Jazz History Museum – Home of Louis Armstrong, The New York World’s Fair Grounds including the Unisphere, Flushing Meadows Park (site of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and Arthur Ashe Stadium), The Museum of the Moving Image, the New York Hall of Science. We invite you to select which one of these sites you wish to see and visit. We’ll also be happy to select the sites we believe you’ll most appreciate to visit.
Staten Island is located south of Manhattan across New York harbor. Although it takes time and distance to travel to Staten Island, there you can see: Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island Yankee Ballpark, Fort Wadsworth (1814 Military Fortress), Richmond Town (like Williamsburg, original 17th Century New York City), and the Staten Island September 11 Memorial. If you wish, you could ride the Staten Island Ferry across the harbor! If you have a list of what you’d like to see on Staten Island, please let us know, as we are glad to accommodate your wishes.
Did you know Staten Island was named in honor of the governing body of the Netherlands, the States General?
